Overview

The New York Times Open Letters contest invites middle and high school students to write open letters of protest or appeal to a person or group who has the power to address an issue the student cares about.

By participating in this contest, students can refine their persuasive and argumentative writing skills while making an impact on a broader public audience. Winners may also have their work published on The Learning Network

Through personalized mentorship, the J&B team guides students through every stage of writing a compelling open letter- from choosing a meaningful topic to developing persuasive arguments and refining tone and structure. This hands-on support will help students find their voice and communicate their ideas with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
