McLean Korean Academy

A Premier Hangeul, Hanmoon, and Seoye Academy Serving the Washington, D.C. and Virginia Area

About McLean 서당

Rooted in Korean Heritage. Empowered to Think and Express in the Age of AI.

McLean 서당 (Seodang) was founded on the belief that the ability to write clearly and thoughtfully is more important than ever in today’s rapidly evolving world. Beyond language instruction, the academy helps students organize their thoughts, express themselves with confidence, and communicate meaningfully with others.

Its mission is to help Korean American children growing up in the United States connect naturally with the Korean language and their cultural roots.

Through Korean language instruction, students strengthen their linguistic identity and build a foundation in reading and writing. Through Hanmoon (Classical Chinese characters) classes, they explore the deeper meanings of words and develop broader perspectives. Through Seoye (Korean calligraphy), students learn patience, concentration, and mindful expression, discovering how each brushstroke reflects both discipline and intention.

By bringing language, culture, and the arts together, McLean 서당 nurtures the next generation of globally minded learners with strong critical thinking skills, cultural awareness, and expressive abilities.

Our Program

McLean 서당 brings together three essential areas of learning: Hangeul, Hanmoon, and Seoye.
Going beyond traditional learning, the program develops the ability to organize thoughts and express ideas clearly. This is the essence of McLean 서당’s educational philosophy and the value behind its premium approach. In an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, the ability to write by hand and understand the meaning behind words remains an invaluable skill.
These programs help children growing up in the United States build a meaningful connection with Korean language, culture, and heritage.
